I am Miguel, a Level 4 ACA Counsellor and Senior Social Worker with over 20 years of experience supporting people across Australia, the Americas, and Europe.
Clients often describe me as warm, grounded, and easy to talk to. I believe meaningful change begins when people feel safe, accepted, and genuinely understood — without judgement or pressure.
My approach is collaborative and practical. Together, we explore what is happening in your life, make sense of your experiences, and build the emotional clarity and inner resources needed to move forward with greater confidence and resilience.
Having lived and worked in several countries, I bring strong multicultural awareness to my work and warmly welcome clients from all backgrounds.
Please reach out to miguel@maatcounselling.com.au if you cannot find an answer to your question.

Individuals, couples, adolescents, families, and parents—across diverse backgrounds and life challenges like anxiety, relationships, trauma, and youth issues.
During your first session I will ask you questions to get to know you better and understand what brings you to counselling. You will also have the opportunity to ask any questions you may have about the counselling process.
A counselling session can last between 20min and 90min depending on your specific needs and preferences.
My approach is warm, grounded, and collaborative. I believe meaningful change begins when you feel safe, heard, and genuinely understood.
Clients often tell me they feel calm and at ease in sessions, even when talking about difficult things. I don’t rush the process — we work together at a pace that feels right for you.
I integrate evidence-based approaches including:• Person-Centred Therapy
• Emotional Freedom Technique (EFT)
• Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT)
• Solution-Focused Therapy
• Trauma-Informed Care
Each session is tailored to your unique needs — there is no “one-size-fits-all” therapy.
If you’re unsure, you’re welcome to reach out for an initial conversation.
Adolescence and young adulthood can be complex and emotionally challenging — not only for young people, but for parents and caregivers as well.
I have extensive experience working with teenagers and young adults, supporting issues such as anxiety, emotional regulation, identity, relationships, and life stressors.
Alongside individual support, I also work with parents and families to:
• Improve communication
• Reduce conflict
• Strengthen relationships
• Support the wellbeing of the whole family
When one person is struggling, the whole family is often affected — and supported change can benefit everyone.
You might be seeking counselling if you’re experiencing:
• Anxiety, stress, or emotional overwhelm • Relationship or family difficulties • Parenting challenges or conflict with teenagers • Life transitions, grief, or loss • Low mood, burnout, or feeling stuck • Trauma or unresolved past experiences • Suicidal thoughts or emotional crisis • A desire for greater self-understanding and resilience
Together, we work at your pace to restore emotional balance and strengthen your sense of self.
Having lived and worked across Australia, the Americas, and Europe, I bring strong multicultural awareness to my work.
I offer counselling in:
• English
• Spanish
• French
• Portuguese
You are welcome to express yourself in the language that feels most natural to you.
I have experience supporting individuals experiencing significant emotional distress, including crisis situations and suicidal thoughts.
My role is to help you feel less alone, while we work together toward safety, stability, and renewed hope.
If you are in immediate danger, please contact emergency services or present to the nearest Hospital.
